  “Yep. Would you believe it? Phil offered me a consulting job. He said I have hidden talents. I actually suspect he wants to keep a close eye on me. And, now that I think about it… Maybe that’s been Jack’s plan all along.”

  “What about Rob Greer?”

  “Mmm. I almost got it right. Bernice colluded with Person X. Rob Greer’s son. Who, by the way, also has a gambling problem.”

  Jill fell silent, then mused, “Poor Chad. She duped him for two whole years.”

  “Yeah, it makes you wonder…”

  Jill glanced at her. “It sure does.”

  Eve snorted. “Am I under suspicion again?”

  “I don’t know. Rock-Maine island had been crime free. Then, you came along.”

  “Hey. What about the Great Fire of 1846? Someone must have started it and, if you ask me, that someone is probably Ken McLain’s distant relative.” Eve rolled up her sleeves. “In fact, I think I’m going to sift through the town archives. Care to give me a hand?”

  Jill stretched and yawned. “I guess so, but that means I’m going to have to shelf my project. I was going to start work on your T-shirt.”

  Eve grinned. “I’ve come up with a new logo. I’m watching.”

  “That should work.”

  They both stood up and walked out onto the beach.

  “For as long as I live,” Eve mused, “I will always travel in pairs.”

  Jill put her arm around Eve’s shoulder. “I’m happy to be your alibi.”
